Remain
alert and stay in party offices on Nov 19, Awami League
urges leaders of all units

November
17th 2009:- The
Awami League high command yesterday instructed the leaders
of all its units and associate bodies to stay in their respective
party offices on the day of the verdict in the appeal hearing
in Bangabandhu Murder Case on November 19. The instruction
was given from a joint meeting of the central leaders of
Awami League and its associate bodies held at party president
Sheikh Hasina's political office at Dhanmondi in the city,
according to leaders of some AL associate bodies. Acting
president of Awami League and deputy leader of the Jatiya
Sangsad Syeda Sajeda Chowdhury chaired the meeting.
On the
day of the Supreme Court verdict, leaders and workers of
the Awami League's Dhaka City unit and associate bodies
would stay in their offices at Bangabandhu Avenue and at
Dhanmondi and other places to observe the situation. Acting
general secretary of Awami League Mahbub-ul-Alam Hanif told
that Awami League along with the whole nation was expecting
a fair judgment in Bangabandhu Murder Case. He added that
leaders and workers of the Awami League, its units and associate
bodies had already been instructed to remain alert on the
day of the verdict on December 19 as many subversive incidents
had taken place over the trial in Bangabandhu Murder Case
in the past.
Hanif also
said the trial of the war criminals would surely be held.
But, he was quick to add that the process would be started
after getting necessary information, evidence and data relating
to the crimes committed against humanity by the war criminals
39 years back in 1971. When asked on the allegation of BNP
secretary general Khondker Delwar Hossain that Awami League
was conspiring to foil the BNP's national council planned
for December 8, the acting general secretary of Awami League
said, "We don't want to comment on his remarks as Delwar
Saheb used to come up with many inconsistent words. They
used to blame Awami League for internal clashes even."
He said
the Awami League organised its national council within the
Election Commission-set deadline but BNP could not arrange
its national council in time. "As the BNP could not
organize its national council in time, we approached the
Election Commission for time-extension. So Delwar Saheb's
allegation that Awami League was conspiring to foil BNP's
council was nothing but a delirium," Hanif added.
