The Supreme
Court will deliver verdict in Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur
Rahman assassination case on November 19. After concluding
hearing on the appeals filed by five convicts, the five-member
bench of the Appellate Division, headed by Justice Md Tafazzul
Islam, fixed the date on 29th day of the hearing in the
case today.
Advocate
Khan Saifur Rahman, counsel for convicts Syed Farooqur Rahman
and Mohiuddin Ahmed, placed his submission on behalf of
his clients before the court as the hearing began at about
9:50am today. The SC concluded the hearing with Abdur Razzak
Khan, counsel of Sultan Shahriar Rashid Khan, placing his
submission.
During his
submission, Advocate Khan Saifur Rahman told the court that
the incidents of August 15, 1975 were the result of mutiny
and the purpose of the mutiny was not to kill Bangabandhu.
He said Syed Farooqur Rahman and Khandker Abdur Rashid in
an interview with a Granada Television said that the incidents
of August 15, 1975 were a mutiny.
"And
the incidents should be tried at the court martial under
the Army Act," Khan Saifur Rahman said.
Five convicts
-- dismissed army personnel Syed Farooqur Rahman, Sultan
Shahriar Rashid Khan, Mohiuddin Ahmed, AKM Mohiuddin, and
Bazlul Huda, now behind the bars, lodged the appeals with
the SC in October 2007 against their death sentences pronounced
by the High Court. The Supreme Court started the hearing
on the appeals on October 5.
